Portrait of a Pregnancy

Pregnancy Collage

It’s only taken me 8 weeks (and 4 minutes) to compile all my belly shots, and considering I have a little gentleman who loves to snuggle, I’d say I’m ahead of the curve. It’s crazy looking back at my belly week by week and realizing that was our little Harry growing in there. Also funny – how huge I thought I was around week 17. And how many articles of clothing with stripes I own.

I’m so glad I have this to look back at one day. And show Harry, if he’s interested. It was a pretty exciting time in our lives… but nothing compared to what we’ve got happening now. (In case you want to see what I looked like at Week 40, click here.)

40 Weeks

40 weeks

How far along: 40 Weeks. Oh, and I had a baby last week.

How big is baby: Actual. He was 7 pounds 4 ounces and 20.8 inches long when he was born. And with a ridiculous amount of hair. Which I love.

Total weight gain: Total weight gain was about 25lbs. I was down a few pounds on my delivery day, but we’ll say total weight gain was 25.

Maternity Clothes: Just ordered another nursing camisole.

Sleep: We’re getting about 3.5 hour spurts at night. Sometimes a little less. So far though, I can’t complain. Such a good little sleeper.

Best moment of the week: Tuesday at 1438 (The birth of my son was pretty awesome).

Food Cravings: Does water count? I down it like it’s going out of style every time he feeds.

Food Aversions: Nada.

Symptoms: Feeling pretty good. A little sore, a little emotional, but overall I feel so much better than I was expecting.

Movement: So much! And so much snuggling.

What I’m looking forward to: Being a mother to this sweet, sweet little boy. I love him to death.

What I miss: Nothing.

39 Weeks

39 weeks pregnant

Dress: Old Navy

How far along: 39 Weeks. One week from the “finish line.”

How big is baby: 7+ lbs. A mini-watermelon. Well that explains why I look like I’ve shoved a watermelon under my dress.

Total weight gain: +25lbs.

Maternity Clothes: Nothing maternity (though I need some nursing bras…) but that dress I’m wearing is new. Size XS non-maternity. I may or may not have bought it just because I was stoked to still fit in an extra small.

Sleep: Still good. I’ve been waking up to pee lots, and usually have some cramps or contractions when I come back to bed, but aside from an hour at 3:30 one night this week, no loss of sleep.

Best moment of the week: Downton Abbey Season 3 premiere!

Food Cravings: Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.

Food Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms: Okay, this is the week of symptoms. Braxton Hicks contractions are getting more intense and more frequent. I’ve had a handful of real contractions every day, but they are so spread out and still two + minutes long, so not labor yet. Some cramping. Still losing mucus. I had a gnarly nosebleed yesterday morning, I mean seriously crazy. Lots of movement in the bowels (we’ll leave it there). And lots and lots of hormonal emotions. We are getting close to the end people.

Movement: Same as the last few weeks. Not as much, but when he moves, he moves. I think we’re both to the point where we’re a little frustrated with the lack of space in there.

What I’m looking forward to: Baby. I woke up yesterday thinking (for the first time this whole pregnancy) “I’m ready. Any time he wants to come from here on out, I’m ready.”

What I miss: Control over my emotions.

38 Weeks

38 Weeks Pregnant

Jacket: H&M, Scarf: Gift (from Japan), Dress: Ross, Tights: Target

How far along: 38 Weeks. It’s baby time, any day now.

How big is baby: Almost 7ish pounds. About the length of a leek.

Total weight gain: about +24lbs

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new.

Sleep: Still great. Lots of pee breaks and my back is definitely sore when I roll out of bed every 2 hours, but lots of sleep.

Best moment of the week: A Barnes & Noble date with the husband.

Food Cravings: Salads.

Food Aversions: Nada.

Symptoms: Lots of discomfort in my pelvis & lower back. Not constantly though. And the Braxton Hicks are getting more frequent and more intense. And it might just be because we had to take Christmas down early to get the carpets steam cleaned, but I have been SUPER emotional this week.

Movement: Same old, same old. I can feel when he’s shaking his head side to side. Pretty crazy. And then I run to the bathroom, because he’s using my bladder as a pillow.

What I’m looking forward to: Baby time!

What I miss: Laying on my stomach.

37 Weeks

37 Weeks Pregnant

Sweater: Banana Republic (similar), Shirt: Target (similar), Leggings: Old Navy

How far along: 37 Weeks. We are officially full term.

How big is baby: Maybe about 6.5lbs. Or about the size of a BABY. Seriously guys. A baby. This guy is bigger than my little brother Dylan was when he was born.

Total weight gain: about +23lbs.

Maternity Clothes: Bought two nursing tank tops for the hospital (and beyond). And a nursing bra. Holy moly, this is getting close (I’m packing the hospital bag tonight)!

Sleep: Still really great. No complaints. Except, when I get up to pee (8 times a night) I have to roll my way out of bed.

Best moment of the week: So much Christmassing with the husband this weekend.

Food Cravings: Cheeseburgers still. And orange juice.

Food Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms: Still very uncomfortable (I’m sure this will last until he’s here… and then it will be a whole new kind of discomfort). Lots of emotions happening. Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions (and they’re getting a little more uncomfortable). Oh, and this might err on the side of TMI, but I lost a little bit of my mucus plug yesterday. Just a small bit.

Movement: About the same. Smaller movements for the most part. More readjusting and stretching with a few jabs mixed in.

What I’m looking forward to: Christmas tomorrow! Our last as a twosome.

What I miss: Family. Snow. But mostly family.

36 Weeks

36 Weeks Pregnant

Dress: Asos

How far along: 36 Weeks.

How big is baby: According to my midwife, he’s probably about 6 lbs today. And toward the small end of normal. But yay!

Total weight gain: +21lbs.

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new this week.

Sleep: Good, good, good. Maybe that means The Babe will be a good sleeper and I’ll sleep 12 hour nights when he’s here. HA.

Best moment of the week: Lots of great moments… Christmas parties, Christmas shopping, Christmassing in general…

Food Cravings: Cheeseburgers. Mum needs protein. Oh my goodness, and good Italian food. Fabulous pasta. Might just be because of all the Giuliana and Bill I’ve been watching lately.

Food Aversions: Nothing really…

Symptoms: Just generally uncomfortable. Which makes sense, seeing as though I have a 6 pound turkey and his entire home inside of me. And I’m emotional. But what’s new.

Movement: Well, The Baby is officially head down! Which is awesome. But that means I’ve got a nice little baby butt up in my ribs. And some elbow jabs in my sides. Still moving. It’s crazy how it feels now though – like there is a real human just wiggling around in there.

What I’m looking forward to: Christmas!

What I miss: Time. It’s speeding up, and there is a lot to do.

35 Weeks

35 Weeks Pregnant

Dress: Gap Outlet; Watch: Citizen

How far along: 35 Weeks. This is going crazy fast.

How big is baby: 5 1/4 lbs! Holy crap. A honeydew melon. This baby is getting big, and I can feel it.

Total weight gain: about +20lbs.

Maternity Clothes: My mom sent me a box of maternity clothes from Old Navy! I’m loving the maternity leggings.

Sleep: Much better this week without a cold. I’ve been so lucky in the sleep category this entire pregnancy.

Best moment of the week: A baby shower yesterday! Some awesome friends here are way too sweet and threw me one.

Food Cravings: These cookies (so good, by the way).

Food Aversions: Not much to speak of.

Symptoms: I’ve got a pretty constant pain (at least while sitting) in my upper back on the right side since there is simply no room in there. And a racing heart. And it’s getting harder to breathe thanks to a lovely little lump all the way up in my lungs. We’re getting to the uncomfortable part, I’m thinking.

Movement: About the same as last week. Not as much as about 10 weeks ago, but when he does move, woah, he moves. It’s also pretty cool to feel my belly now… it’s no longer like a big beach ball, it’s like a baby. You can feel a little back or butt or elbows or feet.

What I’m looking forward to: Christmas! Can you believe it’s in 2 weeks?!

What I miss: A few of my sweaters that cannot be worn due to the extreme lousy weather (75 degrees… I know, I know.) and the fact that I don’t want to stretch out my favorite clothes. And a lot of my jeans. And family, this time of the year.

34 Weeks

34 Weeks Pregnant

I’ve had a request for clothing sources, and at the risk of saying “Old Navy” too many times (seriously, Old Navy makes some awesome and cheap stretchy non-maternity clothes for maternity ladies) I’ve decided to oblige. Warning, I tend to keep my clothes for a long time, so providing links to buy them may not happen much. Anyway:

Sweater: Banana Republic Factory (similar), Jeans: Eddie Bauer, Belly Band: Motherhood Maternity, T-Shirt: Old Navy (similar)

How far along: 34 Weeks.

How big is baby: 4 3/4 ish lbs, or an average cantaloupe.

Total weight gain: about +20lbs.

Maternity Clothes: No… but I may need some soon. We’re getting uncomfortable big up in here.

Sleep: Well, I have a cold. So sleep has been a little rough. Waking up to pee 6 times a night isn’t as easy to swallow when your throat feels like sandpaper on fire and you can’t breathe.

Best moment of the week: My hubs coming home a day early – just in time to take care of his poor, sick, pregnant wife.

Food Cravings: Good Chinese.

Food Aversions: Can’t really think of any.

Symptoms: Well, pregnancy un-comfortablity + sick un-comfortablility makes for a cranky lady. And I have made it to the point in my pregnancy where it isn’t as easy to sit, either due to the lack of space in my ribs or the pain in my back.

Movement: It’s not as frequent by far, but when he moves, he MOVES (just like that). It’s pretty awesome to see my whole belly wiggling around with his movements.

What I’m looking forward to: Some Christmassing this week and weekend!

What I miss: Cold weather. Seriously guys, it’s 75 degrees outside. What is this crap?!
