A Whole New World

R.Simple Life | A Whole New World

He moved three inches, stopped, smiled, and he hasn’t stopped moving yet. While he’d much prefer to walk, if no one is available to help him, Harry is a crawler. There is no place safe from his little baby hands, and boy do they get around. I think it’s time to babyproof. I will say this though… he’s a baby. He’s learning about the world around him. I am encouraging the heck out of his curiosity. I hope it is a trait he never loses, just learns to rein in at times. The people who make a difference in this world are often the most curious, right?

Side note, how perfect is this front page of the Ikea magazine for this post? I’d like to say Ikea and I worked on this together (but I’d be lying).

A Papa to be Proud Of

So, I’m not going to talk about the D-word on the blog. At least not right now. But I just have to say that I am so proud of my man. He works so hard serving his country. He plays hard too, but that’s why we love him. His never-ending supply of energy is wonderful when Harry needs to run around the house playing chase. His laugh is infectious, even when I’m having a not so wonderful day. He is so kind and generous. He’d literally give you the shirt off his back if you asked. Yes, you. Anyone. He wants to take care of everyone, and I’m so grateful that it’s Harry and I that get him all to ourselves.

R.Simple Life | A Papa to be Proud Of

Sometimes I think about how much I love him and I miss him. I miss him when he’s sleeping right next to me. I miss him when he’s singing in the shower. I miss him when he’s playing basketball or working or mowing the backyard. So missing him isn’t going to be new. The hard part will be not having his arms to pull me in and hold me close. His hand to hold. His shoulder to lean on.

And the even harder part will be watching my little boy, Jon in miniature, grow up and hit milestones by myself. Without Papa. Wishing for the end of this chapter so our little family can be whole again, but dreading every new day because it’s one more day Papa is going to miss. One more smile, tear, hug, high five. Our Papa gives up a whole lot to serve this country. And boy, are we proud of him.

We love you Papa.

New Orleans Baby

R.Simple Life | Harry in New Orleans

That security sign is going to drive me crazy for years, but when this little boy flashes a smile so sweet, I can’t help but snap a picture or 2 (thousand). A picture from our weekend in New Orleans.

Sick Boy

R.Simple Life | Dealing with a sick baby

Well, Mama was sick over the weekend, and she’s passed it on to Harry. He had a fever yesterday and woke up to an even higher one today. All he wants is for Mama to hold him and to sleep. The poor guy is hot, uncomfortable, and sad. We’ve got a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, so all fingers crossed it’s just teething + the short lived cold I had. It breaks my heart to see him like this.

This was taken on the grass in front of a McDonald’s somewhere in central Mississippi last week. I kind of love it.

Reunited

Harry and Papa | R.Simple Life

Papa came home this weekend, and we’re glad to have him back. The important thing is that Harry still knows who is the boss. ┬áPapa said “Harry, I am the master of this household.” Harry replied with a loud “HA! Mama.” The proceeded to give me a high five. This kid is hilarious.
