Stop Complaining


I have a friend, let’s call her S. S has one of the most amazing families ever. Everything they do, they do with gusto, and because of that, it always seems like so much fun. She has two sons and a daughter. Her youngest will be one on my birthday.

S decided to get into shape after her daughter was born. Don’t get me wrong, she was always gorgeous, and never a “bad” shape. She was one of those women who bounced back from pregnancy pretty easily (or so it seemed to me). But she decided to get up, get moving, eat healthy, and BE healthy. Her transformation was amazing.

She went from a beautiful woman to an even more gorgeous, healthy woman. She became motivation to so many of her friends and family, encouraging them to do the same. She didn’t have a gym to go to, so she worked out at home. She just recently took her motivation to a higher level, as a coach for Beachbody. She gets me excited to get into the best shape of my life after the little man is here. Excited to work out hard, eat clean, and get my lean body back.

I saw this poster and thought of S. And then I thought of all the people who would choose to complain over doing something. Be it in fitness and health, careers, love, family, life, etc. I hoped I wasn’t one of them. Sure, I complain. I think everyone does. But what we all need to remember is complaining does nothing. Doing something, well, that does something. To get results, you have got to do something. To get fit, you have got to get off your couch and put down the pizza. To do well in a career you love, you have to work, hard, to get there. To find love, or keep love, you have to put yourself out there, and become the kind of person YOU could love. In short, you have to do something.

I know this comes right before the new year, and no I’m not encouraging you to make any 2013 resolutions (I’m not discouraging it either!) but I needed to share this. I needed to hold myself accountable. To stop complaining, and start doing. Something.

    You young ladies are all so brilliant, where were you when I was your age?

    It kind of reminds me of the hub post accident. He never imagined NOT swimming/biking/running. He was more aware of surroundings on the bike. Yet even in full rehab, he swam a 1600 90% with his right arm just to prove he could stll do it!

    For me I have to wait 20 more days before training resumes! Shh..don’t tell,but I forgot (truly!!) & ran in the snow before shovelling out! Movng snow has never felt so wonderful!!

    & yes this is a challenge for resting for 6 wks is the longest pre-during-post preg w/o training in a few years…. so no complaints as health is the goal!!

    “To do well in a career you love, you have to work, hard, to get there.” I took this advice when you gave it to me months ago and finally quit the job that was making me miserable. And while job searching is no fun and finding your dream job takes time and so much effort, it is much more productive to get out and do something anout it rather than just complain to your best friend and husband about being at a job you can’t stand. All I needed was a little (or a lot of) encouragement.

      Sometimes all you need is a little encouragement. Doing something isn’t always easy. It’s scary. But it’s so worth it. And I’m so glad you did quit that stupid job! XO
