38 Weeks

38 Weeks Pregnant

Jacket: H&M, Scarf: Gift (from Japan), Dress: Ross, Tights: Target

How far along: 38 Weeks. It’s baby time, any day now.

How big is baby: Almost 7ish pounds. About the length of a leek.

Total weight gain: about +24lbs

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new.

Sleep: Still great. Lots of pee breaks and my back is definitely sore when I roll out of bed every 2 hours, but lots of sleep.

Best moment of the week: A Barnes & Noble date with the husband.

Food Cravings: Salads.

Food Aversions: Nada.

Symptoms: Lots of discomfort in my pelvis & lower back. Not constantly though. And the Braxton Hicks are getting more frequent and more intense. And it might just be because we had to take Christmas down early to get the carpets steam cleaned, but I have been SUPER emotional this week.

Movement: Same old, same old. I can feel when he’s shaking his head side to side. Pretty crazy. And then I run to the bathroom, because he’s using my bladder as a pillow.

What I’m looking forward to: Baby time!

What I miss: Laying on my stomach.

xoxo, Mallory

Do Something

Stop Complaining

via

I have a friend, let’s call her S. S has one of the most amazing families ever. Everything they do, they do with gusto, and because of that, it always seems like so much fun. She has two sons and a daughter. Her youngest will be one on my birthday.

S decided to get into shape after her daughter was born. Don’t get me wrong, she was always gorgeous, and never a “bad” shape. She was one of those women who bounced back from pregnancy pretty easily (or so it seemed to me). But she decided to get up, get moving, eat healthy, and BE healthy. Her transformation was amazing.

She went from a beautiful woman to an even more gorgeous, healthy woman. She became motivation to so many of her friends and family, encouraging them to do the same. She didn’t have a gym to go to, so she worked out at home. She just recently took her motivation to a higher level, as a coach for Beachbody. She gets me excited to get into the best shape of my life after the little man is here. Excited to work out hard, eat clean, and get my lean body back.

I saw this poster and thought of S. And then I thought of all the people who would choose to complain over doing something. Be it in fitness and health, careers, love, family, life, etc. I hoped I wasn’t one of them. Sure, I complain. I think everyone does. But what we all need to remember is complaining does nothing. Doing something, well, that does something. To get results, you have got to do something. To get fit, you have got to get off your couch and put down the pizza. To do well in a career you love, you have to work, hard, to get there. To find love, or keep love, you have to put yourself out there, and become the kind of person YOU could love. In short, you have to do something.

I know this comes right before the new year, and no I’m not encouraging you to make any 2013 resolutions (I’m not discouraging it either!) but I needed to share this. I needed to hold myself accountable. To stop complaining, and start doing. Something.

What are you going to do?

37 Weeks

37 Weeks Pregnant

Sweater: Banana Republic (similar), Shirt: Target (similar), Leggings: Old Navy

How far along: 37 Weeks. We are officially full term.

How big is baby: Maybe about 6.5lbs. Or about the size of a BABY. Seriously guys. A baby. This guy is bigger than my little brother Dylan was when he was born.

Total weight gain: about +23lbs.

Maternity Clothes: Bought two nursing tank tops for the hospital (and beyond). And a nursing bra. Holy moly, this is getting close (I’m packing the hospital bag tonight)!

Sleep: Still really great. No complaints. Except, when I get up to pee (8 times a night) I have to roll my way out of bed.

Best moment of the week: So much Christmassing with the husband this weekend.

Food Cravings: Cheeseburgers still. And orange juice.

Food Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms: Still very uncomfortable (I’m sure this will last until he’s here… and then it will be a whole new kind of discomfort). Lots of emotions happening. Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions (and they’re getting a little more uncomfortable). Oh, and this might err on the side of TMI, but I lost a little bit of my mucus plug yesterday. Just a small bit.

Movement: About the same. Smaller movements for the most part. More readjusting and stretching with a few jabs mixed in.

What I’m looking forward to: Christmas tomorrow! Our last as a twosome.

What I miss: Family. Snow. But mostly family.

Gorgeous Holiday Prints

91620173641147241_4YRzwjca_c

Oh my goodness you guys. I want to get every one of these prints from Kari Herer and decorate my house with them next Christmas. They are gorgeous, and so subtly Christmas. Who would have thought to decorate your holiday home with NAVY?! You would think it would have been me, but it didn’t occur to me until I saw this.

Now, I need to decide. Navy & beautiful floral prints from Kari Herer or a gorgeous Scottish tartan next Christmas? Maybe I can mix them all together to get a navy tartan beautiful Christmas.

Style Me Pretty Weddings: THE BOOK

SMP-Weddings-Cover2

Okay, we can say it. I fail at the 12 Days of Christmas. The problem was – I spent all weekend at Christmas Parties, or decorating Christmas Parties, or cooking for Christmas Parties, or shopping (for… you guessed it Christmas Parties). So I just didn’t have the time to blog. But I was still Christmassy, I promise!

I’m planning on doing a full fledged gift guide later this week for those of you (like me) who shop late. But can I just stop in to say, holy crap, my boss wrote a book? It’s freaking gorgeous you guys. And honestly, honestly, it would make a fabulous present for someone who is engaged – or maybe someone who is getting a sparkly rock in her stocking. Or just someone like me who loves weddings more than most other things.

I’m so proud of the whole Style Me Pretty team (and all the fabulous photographers, designers, etc) who came together to create this absolutely beautiful book. I have the best job ever. Want proof? Just open the pages.

36 Weeks

36 Weeks Pregnant

Dress: Asos

How far along: 36 Weeks.

How big is baby: According to my midwife, he’s probably about 6 lbs today. And toward the small end of normal. But yay!

Total weight gain: +21lbs.

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new this week.

Sleep: Good, good, good. Maybe that means The Babe will be a good sleeper and I’ll sleep 12 hour nights when he’s here. HA.

Best moment of the week: Lots of great moments… Christmas parties, Christmas shopping, Christmassing in general…

Food Cravings: Cheeseburgers. Mum needs protein. Oh my goodness, and good Italian food. Fabulous pasta. Might just be because of all the Giuliana and Bill I’ve been watching lately.

Food Aversions: Nothing really…

Symptoms: Just generally uncomfortable. Which makes sense, seeing as though I have a 6 pound turkey and his entire home inside of me. And I’m emotional. But what’s new.

Movement: Well, The Baby is officially head down! Which is awesome. But that means I’ve got a nice little baby butt up in my ribs. And some elbow jabs in my sides. Still moving. It’s crazy how it feels now though – like there is a real human just wiggling around in there.

What I’m looking forward to: Christmas!

What I miss: Time. It’s speeding up, and there is a lot to do.

Christmas Traditions

IMG_1533

Christmas carding last year with a warm chai.

Let’s talk traditions. Traditions are some of my favorite parts of the Christmas season. The cheer is automatic the second I pull out my grandma’s Christmas plates & mugs (the same ones I ate off as a little girl at her house). Traditions are filled with memories of years past and dreams of years to come. Served with a side of goosebumps, traditions can be the best part of the holiday season; the part we look forward to all year long.

With a little one on the way, our traditions might change a little (going to a movie Christmas Day may not be all that easy the next few years) but one thing is for certain, there will be new traditions. New memories, and new dreams. It’s an exciting Christmas in our house this year. The anticipation of this little dude is at an all time high, but the excitement to spend one last holiday just the two of us, with our very own traditions, is just as high. Some traditions I wait for all year long include:

1. Turning on the Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving – and singing along all month long.

2. Decorating a live tree with my love. Filling every bough with ornaments that mean something to us – many of which, are snowmen.

3. Baking cookies. All kinds, all season long. We love to give them to everyone, especially Santa.

4. Eating our Surf & Turf (steak & lobster) Christmas night off the aforementioned Christmas plates. And we can’t forget about the cinnamon rolls Christmas morning!

5. Picking out one BIG present for the two of  us every year (last year was a trip to the UK, the year before a new camera).

6. Snuggling up with something warm to drink in our new Christmas PJs Christmas Eve. Usually with a movie, always with each other.

7. Finding a spot for all our Christmas swag in a (most likely, or so it seems) new house.

8. Writing our Christmas letter (short & sweet is the way to go for us) for our Christmas card – and sending them to the people we love.

9. A Christmas walk.

10. Many nights listening to Bing Crosby on the couch, snuggled up and admiring our beautiful tree.

Those are just some of the many traditions we have going on, and we’re beyond excited to add a few more in the years to come (advent calendars, mistletoe and wreath making, Christmas stories in bed on Christmas Eve perhaps?) as our little family grows. What are your favorite Christmas traditions?
