30 Days of Thanks: Day 30

Today I am thankful for my body. For eyes that see so much beauty in the world – but also see hurt and suffering. Because then I can something about it. For a nose that can smell warm, baked apples with cinnamon from a mile away. For my mouth that can taste wonders, speak very big things, and can stay shut at the most worthy of moments. For my legs that carry me to where I need to go, be it running, walking, biking or sitting. For my feet, for they can run marathons, climb mountains, and play footsie with my husband. For my hands that can hold on to the most important things. For my arms that can wrap around my loves. For a stomach that fancies chocolate, cheese, bread, and cereal most. For the muscles I work so hard to maintain and build, which are my strength when they need to be. For my heart that pumps the blood I need to every inch of my body, and holds so many people, places, and secrets.

There has never been a time in my life that I have been more aware of my body and the wonders it can do. Right now it is growing another human being. My son. Providing him with nourishment to grow, protection from the outside world, warmth to keep him smiling, and a sense of safety I hope I can always give to him. There have been times when I have been frustrated with the changes in my body in these last 9 months, but mostly, I’m just so thankful for everything my body does.

I know not everyone is as lucky as I am. Some people cannot see. Some people cannot walk. Some people cannot grow a child. So today, on our final of the 30 Days of Thanks, I am ever grateful for my body.

Corstorphine Abbey

You guys, I have a secret dream. I would do anything to run away to Scotland, buy a giant, old, decrepit building, and turn it into something wonderful. A gorgeous boutique hotel, that I could decorate with warm, red tartan and 12 foot sparkly Christmas trees this time of the year. A place where I could live with my family (and our two Scottish Wolfhounds, because I would have two – Reg and Mac) and work with some great people. An inn that would be so cozy and a breakfast cafe where Jon could show off his mad breakfast skills.

I even have a building and a name picked out: Corstorphine Abbey. I think about this a lot.

What’s your secret dream?

The Heat

Seriously, so excited for this movie. I’ve been waiting for it for months. Written by Katie Dippold of Parks and Recreation fame, directed by Paul Feig (who directed Bridesmaids) and staring Melissa McCarthy + Sandra Bullock… it’s going to be hilarious.

Whose going to see it?

30 Days of Thanks: Day 28

A few years ago I discovered something that would change my life forever. It was something that was a constant source of inspiration, a sense of community when I had none, a whole lot of entertainment, a job that I love, and a way to stay connected (and become connected) to loved ones and new friends all over the world. Blogs.

There are millions of them out there (I think), and no matter what, there is a blog for you. Home blogs, fitness blogs, parenting blogs, wedding blogs, blogs about nothing, blogs about everything, even a blog about legos.

Aside from the obvious – blogging has given me a job I absolutely adore – blogging has kept me connected to friends and family as the military moves us around the world. Blogging is an insight into someone’s mind/heart/life (at least the part they want the internet to see) and I have never seen a sense of community like it. It can be intense, it can be lighthearted, it can be passionate.

Blogs, you’re number one on my thankful list today. What’s on your thankful list today?

xoxo, Mallory

PS a few of my daily blog haunts (in case you need some to get lost in for a few hours): Young House Love, Style Me Pretty, Bower Power, Book Monster, A Cup of Jo, The Daybook, Under the Sycamore, Design*Sponge… there are more, but those’ll keep you busy for days.

30 Days of Thanks: Day 27

I’ll be honest, today I just don’t feel like writing up a thankful post. I’m plenty thankful, I just don’t feel like writing about it.

But I’m sticking to it. I have four more days of thanks (and a lifetime more… just not on the blog). So today, I am thankful for solitude. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I crave being alone (or alone with my hubby). I love my friends and family and I honestly adore spending time with them all. But sometimes, I just need to be on my own. In a nice quiet spot. With my own thoughts and feelings. And honestly, the only person I am okay with bursting into that solitude bubble is Jonathan. And the Babe is worming his way in too.

I’m an introvert by nature, and I enjoy the quiet. Solitude is heaven sometimes.

30 Days of Thanks: Day 26

Snow. Seriously, just snow. I most likely will not see snow this year, but no matter what, it always makes me happy. I’m so thankful for snow.

33 Weeks

How far along: 33 Weeks.

How big is baby: A little over 4 lbs (a big pineapple!).

Total weight gain: +17/18 lbs.

Maternity Clothes: No way jose.

Sleep: Still pretty awesome… just a few leg cramps.

Best moment of the week: Thanksgiving. What a great day of family, feasting, and fun.

Food Cravings: Corn casserole.

Food Aversions: Walking past a restaurant in New Orleans, the boiled seafood got to me.

Symptoms: Pregnancy brain like crazy. I shipped our Christmas cards to Oklahoma. So much for getting those out early. And the aforementioned leg cramps. Nothing bad at all, but I’ll wake up once or twice with my calves cramping – not seizing up thank goodness, just like I worked them out too hard.

Movement: Bouts and spurts of wiggles, stretches, and dancing followed by long periods of sleep. And still a few kicks and jabs (usually in the morning or evening).

What I’m looking forward to: Getting the nursery done. It’s really coming together. Pictures later!

What I miss: Snowy Christmas.
